OUR STORY
Dedication and Service
While not many know her story or the things she was subjected to at the hands of her husband, my sister is the reason behind "B" against DV.
In 2022 my sister and niece were lucky enough to escape an abusive domestic violence situation. January 2022, my sister finally left her abusive, alcoholic, controlling husband after he attacked her, as she tried to call my parents to come get her and help her... all while she was holding her two month old daughter. Then a few weeks after getting away, he came for her. I hid her and protected her while he forced his way in our home. With my parents and myself there to protect her, we were able to keep him away and force him out of our home. The police detained him down the road until the military could come pick him up. All to find in his front seat of the car he had death benefits paperwork that he had changed just days prior. The documents lied, saying he was single, and also stated if he died his mother got their child. His plans to take her from this world ended on that day and a military protection order, civil protection order and emergency protection order to take his weapons followed a guilty plea. With all protection orders in place she was able to celebrate her birthday September 9th, BUT she was still connected to him by her marriage and their child. Then on September 14, 2022, my sister took back her name and she took back her life!!! This day they were reborn as my sister's divorce was finalized and she got full custody and all decision making on her daughter.
While I was there the day he came for her and I protected her, I left to college the end of August. I was unable to be there for her birthday and I couldnt be in the court room with her as she faced him again... so on September 9, 2022, (her birthday) in honor of my sister, "B against DV" became a legal nonprofit entity, and its mission from September 14, 2022(the day she claimed her life back), forth will always be to raise awareness, create resources, provide education, fundraise & donate all proceeds to local and national nonprofit domestic violence prevention programs and/or affiliates of such programs. Together we will work to be a voice for those that have been silenced, and to fight and encourage others to always "B" against DV!
